Ship U.S. Speeding Toward Visible IcebergThere is no U.S analyst that I have greater respect for than the Washington editor of the excellent and independent The Nation magazine. Christopher Hayes' writing is incisive, penetrating and well informed. Yet, in his pursuit of truth, he does not seem to be concerned about whom he offends. Nevertheless, his writing appears to have the same serious blind spot that is forced upon virtually every professional Western journalist. In order to fulfill the expectations of both his employers and most of his readers, the Western journalists must write from a secular and mostly humanistic perspective which totally ignores the no small reality that there is a strong, possibility that the very Creator of our Universe is alive and well. Additionally, the omnipotent Living GOD has serious convictions that deserve our most sincere consideration. The main exceptions to journalists' consistent exclusion of the relevance of the existence of GOD is when the writer is employed to write on religious subjects, or is expected to expose the supposed superficiality of his own Christian and Muslim stereotypes. For instance, the ubiquitous Christopher Hitchens has made himself wealthy from exposing his own stereotypes. Or, there is the acceptable mentioning of GOD when the obvious purpose is either to ridicule the excesses of Islamic extremists or to ridicule Evangelical Christians. When examining the writing of The Nation's Christopher Hayes, it is important not to confuse his name with the Christopher Hitchens. Interestingly, both first names are based upon the title of GOD's anointed Messiah the Christ. Significantly, in the recent annual special issue of the March 22nd, Time magazine, there is a special feature about "10 Ideas for The Next 10 Years." The Nation's Christopher Hayes was the capable and appropriate analyst whom Time chose to write a feature article entitled "The Twilight of the Elites." In this revealing article Mr. Hayes is not bashful in exposing the corruption in the last decade of many previously respected and reliable U.S. institutions. He strongly states in his opening sentence "In the past decade, nearly every pillar institution in American society whether it's General Motors, Congress, Wall Street, Major League Baseball, or the mainstream media has revealed itself to be corrupt, incompetent or both. And at the root of these failures are the people who run these institutions, the bright and industrious minds who occupy the commanding heights of our meritocratic order." Amazingly, though I doubt if the exceptionally positive thinking, Christopher Hayes would acknowledge that he has much agreement with the distinguished Saint Augustine's belief in original sin, it appears from his opening observations that he is presenting convincing evidence that U.S. elite leaders are consistently demonstrating to the world's citizen that Saint Augustine's strong case for a belief in man's "original sin" is being vindicated by the fall of many of America's elites. Furthermore, Hayes' apparently accurate, but disgusting statistics which he cites regarding the virtually unbelievable greed of U.S. CEO's is beyond being nauseating, criminal, and wicked. He cites the Economic Policy Institutes' statistics that in 1978 the ratio of average CEO pay to average employee pay was about 35 to 1. So now with approximately thirty years having passed with vastly more educational opportunities for American leaders to have increased their enlightenment, their compassion and their sense of fairness and justice, you would appropriately expect there to be much less disparity between the average CEOs pay and the average worker's pay. Most certainly with the vast opportunities for human compassion to expand, you would not expect an even greater disparity in favor of the already filthy rich CEOs. But instead of improving, excessive wickedness has prevailed in the hearts and minds of the CEOs. According to evidence by Nell Minow, a lawyer and corporate governance expert, "the CEOs have found ways to manipulate the levers of governance and devise ingenious methods of guaranteeing themselves windfalls regardless of their company's performance." So insanely and wickedly, the former insane ratio has become even much, much more sinful, criminal, and unjust than it was thirty years ago. The ratio has actually increased from a wicked $35 to $1 ratio in approximately three decades to $275 to $1 in favor of the wicked, greedy CEO's. Thus, according to the New Testament writing of James, one of the younger brothers of the Messiah Isa/Jesus, these wealthy, evil men who have flagrantly denied their own workers their just pay, will eventually cry out in agonized disbelief at their own severe, but deserved judgment. Listen to the grave warning of Isa's brother James in chapter 5 of his letter in the New Testament addressed to the twelve Jewish tribes who were scattered far and wide. "Come now, you rich, weep, and howl for your miseries that are coming upon you! Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are moth-eaten. Your gold and silver are corroded, and their corrosion will be a witness against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You have heaped up treasure in the last days. "Indeed, the wages of the laborers who have done your work, which you kept back by fraud, cry out; and the cries of the reapers have reached the Lord of Sabbath. "You have lived on the earth in pleasure and luxury; you have fattened your hearts as in a day of slaughter. You have condemned and have virtually murdered innocent men who cannot resist you." In light of such vivid New Testament warnings, when you observe the extreme economic depravity that the supposed best and the brightest have forced upon the American people evidenced by these depraved CEO's, you soon realize that today these men's wickedness is well beyond the wickedness that was so severely condemned in the days of the writings of the Risen Messiah's younger brother. Obviously, a shocking, unpleasant reality should overwhelm us all. The Just GOD of the now Risen Messiah is closely observing the severe economic greed and degradation that has enveloped our entire nation. And this GOD of the Universe's own Risen Messiah, who during his days on earth established his own credibility to be believed by such spectacular accomplishments as raising a close friend from the dead after four days of total death. In fact, his friend Lazarus had been in his tomb so long that his grieving sister Martha expressed her concern to the Messiah that if they took away the stone to the tomb's entrance that there would be an overpowering smell. Despite the potential smell, the stone was removed and the now famous, but formerly dead Lazarus was given totally new life by the Messiah. In fact, it is recorded that the Messiah's miraculous raising of Lazarus from death created such a public relations disaster for the highly embarrassed Jewish religious establishment that the Chief Priests immediately began to make plans to not only put Isa/Jesus to death, but also to murder the raised to life, Lazarus (John 12:10). Another exceptionally notable miracle by the Messiah which further established both his credentials and his authority took place on the strictly enforced non working Sabbath day, thus seriously arousing the intense hostility of the legalistic religious establishment. On that legally enforced non working day the iconoclastic and compassionate Messiah deliberately shattered the wrong understanding of the legally enforced Sabbath Day by giving first time sight to a grown man who was not only blind, but who had been born blind (John 9). But my point in mentioning only these two miracles out of the many documented miracles that the Messiah performed by power from GOD which miracles even the Holy Quran respectfully acknowledges, is this. Because these amazing miracles which document the credibility of the Messiah's special anointing from GOD Himself, took place almost two thousand years ago, thinkers today make a decisive and horrible error in judgment. They wrongly and superficially conclude that this passage of twenty centuries since these significant miracles occurred somehow make them insignificant and irrelevant compared to events occurring in 2010 America. But such reasoning is seriously flawed. For the Eternal GOD of the Scriptures is a generational GOD. And simply because there were no T.V. cameras to record what happened at the time on this earth of GOD's now Risen and still alive Messiah, does not make his observations and warnings less relevant than the observations of so many spokespersons today. Therefore, Rachel Maddow, Keith Olbermann, Jon Stewart, Fox News, Russ Limbaugh, and even The Nation magazine's brilliant journalist, Christopher Hayes, or even the wealthy Pope of the Roman Catholic Church, or even the six Catholic Justices who control the votes of the mighty and virtually infallible U.S. Supreme Court, don't begin to cancel or neutralize the many ominous warnings that were given about preparing for the last days that came from the lips of our now Risen Messiah. Therefore, what I would like to virtually shout is this. For U.S. society today to be saturated with influence on our thinking by all of the Twenty First Century ubiquitous Johnny come lately celebrities who now dominate our T.V. screens, but who will disappear in several decades, and in foolish contrast blow off as irrelevant the truly wise eternal words and teaching that have GOD's own now Risen man as their source, is a colossal error in Judgment, which vast multitudes of rejecters of truth who live today will eternally regret. With this concept in mind, I will reluctantly attempt to correct some of what I see as the superficial and potentially dangerous conclusions of The Nation's brilliant Christopher Hayes after he made some exceptionally helpful observations about the deep incompetence and corruption that now is impacting and virtually dragging down present day U.S. society. There was definitely a grave tone to his observations that left the serious reader with this distinct impression of impending catastrophe that unless there are serious modifications made in our society among especially those who are setting the super negative example for the rest of us, a downward spiral will inevitably continue from which our U.S. society will not recover. But my observation is that he subconsciously realizes that our U.S. situation is so dire and ominous today that he is reluctant to actually acknowledge that our ship of state is like a giant Titanic racing toward a very visible iceberg with all of us on board closing our eyes and convincing ourselves that this impending collision with the iceberg will be so destructive and horrifying that such a devastating collision will obviously not occur. This false reasoning and commitment to denial is regretfully quite similar to how Mr. Hayes accurately points out that some of the finest minds in our nation at the Federal Reserve failed to notice an eight trillion dollar housing bubble that finally exploded with disastrous economic consequences. And similarly, though wise thinkers are shouting to our nation that our U.S. national debt is so out of control that it is threatening the very survival of our economic system as we know it, these warnings are mostly only occurring in scholarly journals such as Foreign Affairs. Even an independent, wise magazine like The Nation refuses to truly sound the needed alarm week after week and month after month. Yes, these magazines should be relentlessly warning us all that we truly are a Titanic Ship of State, which is definitely on a collision course with a giant, very visible and predictable iceberg. Today God Urgently Seeks Chicken Littles to Warn UsMany U.S. children were often read the children's story of Chicken Little. This pesky little chicken was inevitably stirring up alarm by constantly warning whoever would listen that the sky was actually falling when it obviously was not. So the main lesson that we supposedly learned from the story of Chicken Little is that when a person gives false warnings, as a result virtually no one will listen when events are about to occur, which do actually deserve serious attention. Though this may be the lesson that Chicken Little has taught us, there is a secondary lesson that we ignore to our great peril. That is, when the sky has actually begun to fall and we refuse to recognize the obvious signs that the sky is falling and we are in denial about these serious warnings, the obvious result is that we are in deep, deep trouble. The point is often made by superficial readers of the Old Testament Scriptures that alarmists today often attempt to be Prophet Jeremiah's. (Nabi Yeremiah in Arabic.) Those so called alarmists are supposedly giving false warnings when no warnings are deserved. But that evaluation is to totally mischaracterize the whole historical setting of the Prophet Jeremiah's ominous warnings to his generation. It is not that his warnings were unrealistic, but that his totally realistic warnings were totally ignored. Therefore, as a devastating consequence of ignoring this Prophet of GOD's warnings was that his dire predications were fulfilled. Nebuchadnezzar's mighty Babylonian army destroyed Jerusalem and took the people of Israel into a long devastating Babylonian captivity. Furthermore, this whole awful Babylonian destruction and captivity inspired the broken hearted Prophet Jeremiah/Nabi Yeremiah to write one of the saddest summaries of man's wicked refusal to heed the warnings of an obvious messenger of GOD. He poured out his crushed heart in his Biblical book of Lamentations. I seriously ask, who will it be who will write the Book of the Lamentations for a future devastated U.S.? At this point I would say that it has only been MSNBC's Keith Olbermann who has demonstrated with his tears, anger, and intellectual honesty that he may become the writer for the devastated U.S. of a U.S. Lamentations. Because it appears to be only this nationally prominent person who allows his often crushed heart to enter into his sober analysis. But the Jeremiah quality that Mr. Olbermann appears to lack is the courage and perspective to actually warn about the devastation that is quite probably coming to the U.S., though he often does allow his broken heart to get involved when something like a Bush Conflagration and immoral bloodbath has already occurred. But before the chaos occurs, regrettably Mr. Olbermann resembles the false Prophets of Jeremiah's era that were a dime a dozen in his time. These popular prophets refused to treat the seriousness of the Nation's wounds and offered only superficial treatment for these open wounds. Hear Jeremiah's words about the false prophets of his day denying the seriousness of the impending Babylonian invasion of Jerusalem. "They have lied about the LORD; they said, 'He will do nothing. No harm will come to us; we will never see sword or famine." "The Prophets are but wind, and the word is not in them." (Jeremiah 5:12, 13) "They dress the wound of my people as though it were not serious. 'Peace, peace,' they say, when there is no peace." (Jeremiah 6:14.) In contrast to current superficial prophets, who will be the courageous T.V. commentators who will read Professor Niall Ferguson in Foreign Affairs and faithfully warn U.S. citizens about the dire dangers that are vividly printed in large bold print on the March/April 2010 cover of the Foreign Affairs journal which is actually published by the U.S. Council on Foreign Relations. Decline and Fall"When the American Empire Goes, It Is Likely To GO QUICKLY" by Niall Ferguson. The precise title of the Harvard Professor's essay is: Complexity and Collapse Empires on the Edge of Chaos. If a prominent T.V. news Commenter were to seriously echo the Professor's warnings more than once, he would likely lose both his job and his platform for his warnings because of the fact that his profit driven network would never allow the tender ears of the American people to hear such ominous alarm bells that ring from the honest pages of the Foreign Affairs journal. Of course the following one quote will not do justice to the Professor's comprehensive article. Nevertheless, reading his whole article should leave all of us shaking for both the economic future and the general future of the U.S. Empire. When you factor in the economic insanity featured in today's Seattle Time's sport page where a 26 year old baseball catcher that I had never before heard of, signed a contract for one hundred and eighty four million dollars for eight years, you realize American values are across the board crazy. Our Professor observes in his essay: "Great Powers and empires are, I would suggest, complex systems, made up of a very large number of interacting components that are asymmetrically organized, which means their construction more resembles a termite hill than an Egyptian pyramid. They operate somewhere between order and disorder on the edge of chaos A very small trigger can set off a 'phase transition' from a benign equilibrium to a crisis." Speaking only as a layman who reads and reads, I make the following calm observation that I would prefer to scream to American society from the top of my lungs, than to quietly write in my own essay. Look around! From greedy CEOs to greedy bankers, to greedy sports stars, to greedy profit driven health insurance companies, to intellectually imbalanced political leaders who use false information to start horrible wars, to powerful Pentagon officials who love to have the latest pet weapons, to unbalanced and unethical weapons sales persons, to a staggering national debt, to threatening global warming, to the unbalanced domination of the U.S. Supreme Court by six Roman Catholic Justices, our nation has such an excess of triggers (without even considering the nuclear trigger) that it will be a greater miracle that one of these triggers does not soon set off chaos than if our nation somehow does avoid setting off one of these triggers which will possibly and even suddenly lead to chaos for our vulnerable nation. But the great limitation for even our brilliant public commentators such as Keith Olbermann, Rachel Maddow, Chris Matthews, and Christopher Hayes is that they are stuck in a here and now mentality and mostly ignore lessons from the ancient past as well as ignore major future problems. (The main exception is the iconoclastic, but soon retiring brilliant Bill Moyer of PBS.) There is no way that any of these thinkers, even including Bill Moyer, will accurately draw important lessons from the ancient Prophet Jeremiah's time. Nor are they likely to look forward for more than the ten years as is in the title of The Nation magazine's Christopher Hayes, when he contributed a frightening essay to Time magazine about the next ten years. In view of the ominous facts that he cited in his penetrating essay, it is almost ludicrous how unrealistically optimistic he is about his relatively superficial proposals and observations that will hopefully make major contributions to solving the current incompetence, corruption and rampant greed that is tearing apart the sensitive fabric of our democratic nation. Before we consider his far from adequate solutions, we will look again at our 26 year old athlete who has perfected throwing, catching, and batting a baseball to such a high level of competence that his Minnesota baseball organization, in order to increase their chance of winning and thus make more money, have signed him to a $184 million dollar binding eight year contract. This contract for one uniquely gifted athlete is ludicrous, insane, and destabilizing for our society and is grossly wicked and criminal for how it undermines society. Of course, his immoral contract is not the fault of this now super wealthy young man. But this totally disproportionate contract does reveal the deep, deep degeneration in the values of our society. Furthermore, I sincerely submit that the eternal Creator of the entire Universe sees this contract as DESPERATELY WICKED. One of the main sins that the perceptive Prophet Jeremiah/Yeremiah pointed out that was directly leading to the Nation of Israel being brutally conquered by their Babylonian enemies was that the descendents of the Prophet Jacob and their leaders had entirely lost their "awe of GOD" and had created different types of man-made idols to attempt to replace that awe of GOD, that GOD deserves. "Your wickedness will punish you 'Consider then and realize how evil and bitter it is for you when you forsake the LORD your GOD and have no awe of me,' declares the LORD Almighty.'" (Thus reads the very relevant parallel to today's America, Jeremiah 2:19.) Since we as a nation have thrown our necessary "awe of GOD" into the garbage and have exchanged our awe of Him for our worship and awe of human athletic idols and our awe of movie idols which we have unwisely created, these are only obvious symptoms that our entire society is in a downward spiral heading for a horrendous crash. Then you add to that type of wickedness and guilt the virtual rivers of blood that are still crying out to GOD against the U.S. for what we have done against Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Iraq, Palestine, and even is still crying out from the American Indians and the African American slaves who were abused and slaughtered and who often cruelly suffered agonizing deaths on slave ships besides what they suffered under many supposedly Christian, but cruel slave masters. Yes, our U.S. society has mostly lost its awe of GOD. But we do not realize that while Christianity is frantically throwing overboard our fear of GOD, Middle Eastern Arab Islam is simultaneously growing in its awe of GOD. And though it may be difficult for both Christians and even Muslims to believe this amazing reality, a new dawn is about to burst forth on the Middle East. Because of so many millions of Muslims having a faithful awe of GOD, Islam will soon be rewarded with an enlightened understanding of one key verse in the Holy Quran whose true meaning has previously been misunderstood to mean that GOD's Messiah did not actually die and rise from death. But when this verses exact wording is closely analyzed, this verse's teaching does agree with both the emphatic teaching of the Injeel's Scriptures preceding the Holy Quran and with historical reality that the Messiah did temporarily die, but then defeated death when GOD raised him up alive by His own Wisdom and Might. An-Nisa 3:158. Therefore, when this new correct understanding of this one key verse out of the Holy Quran's hundreds of verses is accepted by millions of Middle Eastern Arab Muslims, new fresh meaning will be provided for a prophetic statement made by the now Risen Messiah when he was on this earth. There will be a new favor shown to Middle Eastern Muslims as especially Western U.S. Christians spiral into more and more disfavor with GOD and in contrast Muslims will gain more and more favor with Him through their new acceptance of His Risen Messiah. Thus, since this will be occurring in these last days, the Messiah's amazing statement of "The last shall be first and the first shall be last," Matthew 20:16, will take on new meaning that will be much enjoyed by multitudes of Muslims as they recognize new evidence of the blessings of GOD's Living Messiah in their midst. Yes, unless Western Christians soon wake up to the reality that they have destructively replaced GOD's Living Messiah with the idols of militarism, arrogance, entertainment, and greed, it will be Muslims who will inevitably become first as many American Christians sink further into the quicksand of idol worship. Returning to the two suggested, but overly optimistic and unrealistic solutions for the current downward spiral of the U.S. that I consider to be way too little, way too late, which Christopher Hayes hopes will be sufficient to turn the U.S. around. His two hopeful trends are: One: Two: In his words: "If there are heartening counter trends to the past decade of elite failure, they're the tremendous outpouring of grass-roots activism across the political spectrum and the remarkable surge in institutional innovation, much of it facilitated by the Internet." Then Mr. Hayes goes on to find renewed hope in more bottom up activity in contrast to past top down models such as farmers' markets challenging the industrial food distribution cartel and charter schools challenging undemocratic and less than transparent school systems. Yes, these are positive trends. And though we even have what I personally consider to be a splendid, ethical, brilliant, capable President in Barack Obama, I still ask if any from bottom to top surge enough to counter the poisonous venom which has now invaded our political process through the very Republican party which has become venomous and committed to destruction even though it supposedly has an Evangelical Christian backbone. But this predominately Christian political wing has chosen to abandon an awe of the Almighty and has begun to worship its man created idol of totally abandoning ethics under the guise of pretending to be pro-life. But while being supposedly pro-life, pro-war, and pro-guns simultaneously, they use any pretense that they can to destroy our Democratic Union. Yes! We are in a very dangerous and precarious period today when those who are claiming to be the good guys are turning out to be the bad guys and those falsely labeled the without GOD persons, are more often being more reasonable and far more compassionate than those who fly high their supposed obedience to the Messiah flag. Similarly to how GOD once used the falsely labeled bad sons of Ishmael (Genesis 37:26, 27) to save the supposedly good-family of Jacob who actually attempted to murder their hated brother Joseph, all members of the supposedly good, though murderous sons of the conniving Prophet Jacob, GOD will soon use many Messiah loving Muslims to ultimately save Christians and even to save their persecutors, the devious Jews. This will be despite many Christians and Jews virtually despising Muslims and feeling quite superior to Muslims. Yet, it will be GOD through His Living Messiah who will soon being stability to the destabilized predominantly Arab Muslim Middle East. This new era will begin despite the fact that the supposedly born again President Bush brought weapons, blood, hate, suffering, death, and chaos with no tangible honest excuse for bringing this virtual holocaust to innocent, vulnerable Iraqis.. So tell me. Does it not make more sense to not trust in Christianity, which is never mentioned in the Bible and the word Christian is only mentioned in the Bible three times? But instead, doesn't it actually make more sense to replace trust in Christianity with trust in the humble man who is GOD's Risen man from Bethlehem? This compassionate now Risen man established his excellent credentials by what he did, (healed the sick, raised the dead, gave sight to those born blind, exposed the calloused hard hearts of compassionless Israeli religious leaders and culminated all his compassionate acts by miraculously walking out of his own tomb-alive) even more than establishing his credentials by what he said? But in regard to what he did say, do we give his words true consideration and serious attention though his many miraculous compassionate acts have validated his amazing credentials and are further supported by his longitudinal perspective dating from before Abraham to the distant future. Yet, do we take this virgin born now Risen man's words seriously? Or, instead do we blow his words off? And do we prefer to hang on every word of popular T.V. pundits who appear to have much to say, but whose relatively shallow words seriously lack longitudinal perspective and are spoken with only here and now resumes. But they do have many words to say about the here and now, but totally lack virtually all of the needed long term perspective that has necessary eternal foundations. Please consider these following samples of Isa/Jesus' penetrating words that reveal his balance, but perceptive eternal perspective. Then compare his words of wisdom and life with the much more limited perspective of the exciting here and now events discussed by the ubiquitous T.V. pundits whose words will be irrelevant tomorrow like a pile of dried up leaves. Eternal Words in Contrast to Pundits' Limited Here and Now Words
"Father, forgive them for they do not know what they are doing." The Holy Quran's Al-Baqurah 2:86"These are they who have bought the life of this world at the price of the Hereafter." Significantly, this one profound verse from the Holy Quran vividly summarizes the main point I have attempted to make in this paper. In fact, every U.S. citizen or immigrant will do well to memorize the seventeen words of this ominous warning from the Quran. For I have attempted to explain that the words of GOD's Messiah about the Hereafter are eternally more important than the multiple words we continually hear about this life from various sources. And as The Quran's verse emphatically warns, by our emphasis being on this world, we "have (foolishly) bought the life of this world at the price of the Hereafter." And by doing so, we have ridiculously traded an awe of GOD for an awe of man. If we have made this trade, we will be eternally regretful if we do not soon reverse our wrong decision, as the Holy Quran so ominously warns us in the Quran's wise statement I have just quoted. back to "Late 2007 - 2010" page __________________________________________________________ _________________________________________ __________________________ _____________ |
